Junkyard Dog (2023)

Action, Comedy, Drama

Set in the scrapyards of French-speaking Switzerland, Dog of the Junkyard tells the story of a young man named Simon (Robin Vallon) who is struggling to find his place in the world. Simon lives with his mother, Chantal (Patricia Mazuy), in a small town. He has no job and no prospects, and he spends his days hanging out with his friends and drinking. One day, Simon meets a young woman named Louise (Clara Gostynski) who is also from a working-class background. Louise is intelligent and ambitious, and she is determined to escape the scrapyards. Simon and Louise fall in love, and they decide to leave the scrapyards together. They move to Geneva, where Simon gets a job as a security guard and Louise starts studying at university. However, Simon soon finds it difficult to adjust to his new life. He misses his friends and family, and he feels like he doesn't belong in Geneva. Louise, on the other hand, is thriving in her new life. She is doing well in her studies, and she has made new friends. The gap between Simon and Louise begins to widen, and they eventually drift apart. Simon returns to the scrapyards, where he tries to rebuild his life. He gets a job at a local junkyard, and he starts dating a woman named Jessica (Anaïs Uldry). However, Simon is still haunted by his relationship with Louise, and he is unable to move on. Dog of the Junkyard is a powerful and moving film about class, love, and loss. It is a must-see for anyone interested in French cinema, and for anyone who appreciates a good character study.—yusufpiskin
