Photojournalist Shannon Mathers (Jaime King) arrives at Lake Easton Remote Forest Lands for a hike. She wishes to climb the peak of the hills, where her late father spent most of his childhood. The trek is Shannon's journey to spread her father's ashes and bid a final goodbye.Due to a sudden thunderstorm, Shannon fails to reach the peak, and she returns without fulfilling her desired quest. On her way back, Shannon spots a police officer, Billie (Lala Kent), dealing with a drug peddler, Jimmy. The deal is that Billie supplies Jimmy with seized cocaine, heroine and Meth and Jimmy guarantees the distribution. But lately, Jimmy has been slipping in sales and his cut back to the police department has been going down.
However, in the midst, Billie finds out that Jimmy has been recording their conversation for the feds. He has turned into a snitch. Jimmy tries to run away, but Billie shoots him, killing him on the spot. Shannon records the whole drug bust on her camera. She tries to sneak away, but Billie spots her and chases her into the dense forest. Shannon drops her camera while running away from Billie.Jack Harris (Bruce Willis) is a retired cop. Jack is diagnosed with depression after the demise of his wife, who was struggling with cancer. He arrives at the Niece, Pam's (Kelly Greyson) forest lodge, to find peace, away from his busy city life. Jack lost his wife just 3 weeks ago, after having been together for 32 years. Jack goes to take a hike in the mountain trails.Billie informs Sheriff Hank Rivers (Michael Sirow) about the woman and the drug bust. Hank calmly absorbs the blunder, and sends his brother, Tommy (Tyler Olson), to finish the job. Tommy comes to the trail to clean up the mess in Jimmy's car and to remove any obvious evidence.
The corrupt officers are searching for the witness Shannon in the woods. They manage to capture her and restrain her. Billie figures that Shannon saw the entire sequence of events between her and Jimmy. Billie and Tommy take Shannon to the marsh to kill her and to dispose of her body in the water.Fortunately, Jack Harris was hiking near the marsh and hears Shannon's cries for help. Jack intervenes as he has a gun and makes Billie throw her gun away. Jack and Shannon run away before Tommy realizes that Jack won't shoot a fellow cop.Shannon's father looked at her as a weak child and mocked her until his end. He used to call her a quitter. Hence, through this journey, Shannon transformed herself into a courageous being.
Shannon and Jack get separated. Shannon finds a shed with tools and knives. Shannon manages to cut her ties and stab Billie as she pursues her. Tommy finds Billie and calls Hank for help.
As Shannon runs away, she finds Jack. Jack reveals that he is a retired cop and knows that Shannon is not a criminal. Jack asks Shannon to go back to retrieve her camera, while he goes to get his phone which he left with Pam. Jack gives his gun to Shannon.Hank refuses to evacuate Billie till Shannon and Jack are dealt with. Hank gets Tommy to remove the tourniquet around Billie's wound and allows her to bleed to death. Now, as per official narrative, Shannon killed Billie and Hank is free to hunt her down.
Hank finds Pam's cottage in the woods, just as Jack escapes with his mobile.Meanwhile, Tommy runs into Shannon, and both get into a combat. Shannon stabs Tommy with the knife, but Tommy stabs her right back. Shannon then takes Tommy's own gun from his holster and shoots him dead. Shannon then retrieves her camera.Shannon killed corrupt officers Billie and Jimmy, but Hank Rivers was still hunting her down. Hank finds out that Jack is related to police dispatcher Pam, who is on her day off. Hank returns to the woods and finds Tommy dead. Hank cunningly gets his deputy Frank to abduct Pam Harris to threaten her Uncle Jack. Hank orders Jack to hand over Shannon in exchange for his niece.Shannon and Jack made a ploy against Hank. Shannon uploaded the drug bust evidence on the FBI official site, requesting an immediate SOS. Simultaneously, Jack called Hank to the cabin right off Route 92 in Easton Lake. When Hank arrived at the cabin, he observed Shannon pointing a loaded gun at him. While outside the house, Jack gunned corrupt officer Frank and rescued his niece, Pam.In the climax, the house witnessed three gunshots (visually captured from outside). A shot Hank came out of the house, suggesting one of the bullets pierced his guts. He surrendered to the feds. Shannon came out safe and sound.Hank wanted to become a mayor, but after his arrest, he lost all hope and committed suicide.A happy Shannon arrived at Pam's cabin to take Jack on the hike. There was a possibility that she would reach the top of the forest and prove to her late father that she wasn't a quitter.
